Statement
of Support and Reimbursement Policy for Joint Meetings
Resolution Adopted by the Board of Directors at the Society's
2005 Annual Meeting
When the Society co-sponsors an academic
program with a Sponsor Member or another comparative law or other legal
organization, the President (or other Society representative named by
the President) shall first negotiate an arrangement with the co-sponsor
about the scholarly and financial arrangements. The President is
authorized to commit up to a maximum of $5,000 for a Society subsidy to
support such a meeting, contingent on subsequent ratification by the
Society's Board of Directors (or Executive Committee in extraordinary
circumstances).
Such financial support should normally be directed
first toward financing the attendance of Society member delegates or
participants. The maximum reimbursement would be $600 for a meeting
within the United States and $1,000 abroad. Society representatives are
encouraged to look for reimbursement from their home institutions
before relying on the Society's reimbursement. After this priority is
met, a balance from the authorized subsidy may be used to cover other
program costs associated with attracting comparative law scholars to
the meeting. The co-sponsor will submit such a statement detailing
expenses to the Treasurer prior to payment.
